Food and Festivals of India

There are so many amazing foods and holidays that are unique to India. There are many different types of holidays in India. Some of the best ones are Holi, Janmastami, Pongal, Diwali, Mahashivratri, Navaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam,  Maker Sankranti, Lohri, Thaipusam, Flot Festivals, National Kite Festival, Kerela Village Fair, Bikaner Festival, Pattadakal Dance Festival, Id-ud-Fitr, Vasant Panchami, Mahashivratri, Goa Carnival, Desert Festival, Nagaur Fair, International Yoga Week, Elephant Festival, Deccan Festival, Taj Mahotsav, Surajkund Crafts Mela, Chapchar Kut, Islands Tourism Festivals, Ganaur, and Jamshed-e-Navroz. The most important festivals out of all of these are Holi, Janmashtami, Pongal, Diwali, Mahashivratri, Navaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Onam. During Holi for 2 days, people throw colored powder on each other in the celebration of good winning over evil. Janmashtami is a festival that celebrates Lord Krishna’s birthday (Krishna is a Hindu god). During this festival people climb on each other in a human pyramid to break open pots of yogurt and butter. Pongal is a festival which celebrates good harvest. During this festival people honor their farmers, livestock, and crops. Diwali is the Indian New Year festival. It lasts for 5 days and during it people light fireworks, lamps and candles to represent the victory of good over evil. Mahashivratri is festival that celebrates the wedding of Lord Shiva and Parvati. During Mahashivratri people fast and do ritual worship of Lord Shiva.  Navaratri is a 10 day festival that celebrates the Mother Goddess, Rama’s victory over Ravana, and Goddess Durga’s defeat over Mahishasura. During this festival people dance, visit the theaters, and bathe in the Ganges River. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha. During this festival people put large statues of Ganesha in their homes, sing, dance, and visit the ocean. Onam is a 10 day festival that celebrates the homecoming of King Mahabali. During this festival people decorate the fronts of their homes with flowers, wear new clothes, eat feasts served on banana leaves, dance, play sports, play games, and have snake boat races. The food that is made for these festivals, though differ in each region of India. The different types of Indian food are Bengali Food, Gujarati Food, Kashmiri Food, Mughlai Food, Punjabi Food, Rajasthani Food, and (my favorite) South Indian Food. As you now should know, different regions of India have different food styles and have different foods. Some foods from different regions are : The types of Bengali Food are Chum Chum, Pantua, Pitha, Rasgulla, Sandesh, Muri, Jan-Muri, and Moa. The types of Gujarati Food are Basundi, Ghari Gebar or Ghevar, Halwasan, Keri no Ras, Malpua, Puran Poli, Shrikhand, Sutarfeni, Cholafali, Ghoogra, Mathai, Soonvali, Daal Dhokla, Dhokla, Fafda, Farsi Falafel, Ganthia, Hai Woh, Kachori, Khakhra, Khaman, Khaman Dhokla, Khandvi, Khichu, Lilva Kachori, Mithai, Sev Khamani,  Meethi Kadhi, Sev Tameta nu Shak, Undhiyu, Bajri no Rotlo, Bhakhri, Dhebar, and Thepla. The types of Kashmiri Food are Chamani Qaliya, Chowk Vangan, Dum Aloo, Hak with Nadier/Vangan, Muji Chetein, Nadier Yakhan, Nadier Palak, Rajma dal Anchar, Razmah Gogaji, Veth Chaman, Aab Gosht, Dhaniwal Korma, Dhani Phul, Gaad Kufta, Gushtaba, Kabab, Kashmiri Chicken, Martswangan Korma, Rista, Rogan Josh, Shami Kabab, Tabak Maz, and Yakhni. The types of Mughlai Food are Aloo ka Raita, Badam Halwa, Carrot and Capsicum Raita, Chaamp Masala, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka, Chole/Chana, Jhinga Malai Curry, Kesar Chawal, Murgh Achari, Naan, Palak Gosht, Palak Paneer, Paneer Tamatari, Seekh Kebabs, Tandoori Chicken Legs, and Biryani. The types of Punjabi Food are Butter Chicken, Murgha Kari, Chicken Biriyani, Chicken Tikkas, Fried Garlic Pepper Chicken, Amritsari Fish, Murgh Musallam Chicken Curry, Tandoori Chicken, Zeera Murgh, Egg Curry, Egg Bhaji, Amritsari Aloo, Aloo Ghobi, Aloo Mattar, Aloo Tikki, Baigan Bharta, Bhindi, Cauliflower Bhaaji, Chana Masala, Dahi Bhalle, Dal Fry, Dal Makhani, Handi Biriyani, Jeera Rice, Makki Di Roti, Malai Kofta, Navratan Korma, Carrot Halwa, Gulab Jamoon, Kaju Bharfi, Kalakand, Imarti, Jalebis, Motichoor Ladoo, Pinni, Soan Papdi, and Sooji Halwa. The types of Rajasthani Food are Bail Gatte, Balu Shahi, Besan Chakki, Chavadi, Churma, Dal Bati, Dhungri Hui Chaach, Ghevar, Googri, Jhajharia, Laapsi, Nakhti, Panchkuta, Raabdi, Tarfini, Beans ki Sabzi, Gajar ki Sabzi, Guwar Phali ki Saaj, Karela ki Sabji, Keri ki Sabzi, Khaadi, Kicha ki Sabji, Kikoda ki Sabji, Makki ki Raab, Matar ki Sabji, and Moranga ki Sabji.  The types of South Indian Food are Pesarattu, Gongura, Pulihora, Avakkai Pickle, Kodi Iguru, Kodi Pulusu, Chepala Pulusu, Ragi Rotti, Akki Rotti, Khara Bisi Bele Bhath, Kesari Bhath, Vangi Bath, Udupi Food, Saaru, Bath, Davangere Benne Dosa, Ragi Mudde, Uppittu, Rava Idli, Mysore Masala Dosa, Medu Vada, Mysore Pak, Dharwad Pedha, pheni, Chiroti, Aviyal, Olan, Shrimp Coconut Curry, Fish Poriyal, Idli, Sambar, Rasam, Vada, Thayir Sadam, Thayir Vadai, Murukku, Kootu, Poriyal, Uthappam, Appalam, Papadum, Thayir Pachadi, Chettinad Pepper Chicken, and Karuvadu Kuzhambu. India has the best foods and festivals in the world.
